Turkish Van Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

Her adoption fee is $75. She has been vet checked and spayed. She is good with other animals but her preference would be the only pet to have her people all to herself. Dottie is one of 23 kitties rescued from the kill shelter. Their 'owners' dumped their responsibilities on the over flowing shelters. They were all scheduled to die to make room for more that would surely be dumped the next day. PETS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS. PLEASE GET HELP IF ... (Read More)YOU CAN NOT KEEP A PET. MAKE THE EFFORT! Dottie is a people kitty, wanting to be near to see what you're doing but she also has her limits so don't push her and she will be great. She will be the princess of the house and it's all about her. She has mastered the art of figure eights i.e. rubbing/walking in and out of your legs. She is affectionate and feisty and likes to curl up with her people for 'Dottie time' - of course on her terms. She plays with feathers, fuzzy mice and likes climbing on her cat tree to watch the birds outside. She can have attitude or be lovey dovey, depending on her mood. She will expect to share your bed with you. Cats/Kittens are an 18 year commitment! They need a cat tree, laser lite, inside home ADOPT Birdie McDot FOR LIFE! Their adoption fee is $75 each. Their mom was the family pet kitten but when the family moved away they threw her out with the trash unfixed. Of course she got pregnant! It was her first heat around 6mo. ... (Read More)She was a kitten having kittens. She made her way to an office complex where she had her babies in the dirt. A wonderful animal loving person took them all home to safety. When it was time everybody got fixed, mom and 2 kittens got adopted'|leaving Phoenix and Arizona. Phoenix is the smaller female. Arizona is the bigger male. These two were the shyest of the litter but the foster family has put hours of patience and love into getting them ready for adoption. They will need an adjustment period, probably longer than the typical 2 wks but you can see in the pictures that these two will be wonderful kitties for the right home. They are great with the other cats and the big lazy dog in the foster home. No kids and no barky dogs. PETS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS. ABANDONING AN ANIMAL/LIFE IS INHUMANE! PLEASE GET HELP IF YOU CAN NOT KEEP A PET. MAKE THE EFFORT! Info from their foster mom'| 'Phoenix and Arizona like to hang out in the living room with us, but would definitely hide if new people came in. They love being petted, and actually start competing with each other to get the most attention (kind of flopping in front of each other repeatedly). But it has taken quite a while to get to this point with them, and I expect it would be similar with their new people. I have recently started picking them up to try to get them used to the feeling -- just picking up for a few seconds at a time right now. If you walked right toward them to try to pick up or touch they would run. Fast forceful pushy behavior will not win them over. They do not sit or lie down next to us yet, but Arizona has started jumping up on the couch in the evening to be petted, and I think eventually he will want to sit close. Typically I will sit down on the bed or on the rug in the living room, and they will both walk over and present their backs to be petted. One thing that is helpful -- they are both very food motivated. Both are now in the habit of approaching my husband when he's in the kitchen because they know he'll give them a taste of whatever he's eating. We have been feeding wet food every evening when we get home, and it has really helped get them into the habit of coming out from wherever they were sleeping all day to join the rest of us. Both will eat treats out of your hand. So far, Arizona is the more vocal of the two -- sometimes we hear him talking as he walks through the house. He loves to play with feather toys, shoelaces, and even chases his own tail quite a bit. He spends a good deal of time on our cat tree. Phoenix is petite, but she is probably the bolder one of the pair. She will play with anything on a string, and has dumped the entire contents of our cat toy basket and scatter them throughout the house.' Phoenix and Arizona are both sweet kitties, not aggressive just timid. They are not in your face or holdy holdy kitties but they are extremely comical, fun to watch and it's exciting to watch them grow, come out of their shell and become part of the family.
